Intro to Teeth Sealants

Sealants are typically used to protect molars from surface decay. Since most decay on back teeth starts on the grooves or pits on the surface of the tooth, these thin resin layers are placed over the pits, fissures and grooves along the surface. The sealant is made of composite resin that seals the tooth from decay.

Decay can still happen between the teeth where the sealant doesn’t cover, but the chances of getting a cavity are drastically lower with teeth sealants.
