Notes on Apico-Surgery (Root Canal Surgery):

  1. Don’t be alarmed if you feel minor pain or have swelling after the procedure. It may feel as if the tooth is loose. Temporary skin discoloration may be experienced after the procedure as well.
  2. Use an ice pack for a few hours after surgery to limit the swelling. Hold it on for 10 minutes then take it off for 5 minutes.
  3. Starting the day after the procedure and counting out 3 days, rinse your mouth with warm water after meals.
  4. Stick with very soft foods. Hard, sticky and chewy foods can cause damage and pain.
  5. Make sure you are taking in enough liquid. You can consume juice, soup, and milk.
  6. You may take a vitamin supplement if you feel it is necessary on the limited soft food diet.
  7. Make sure you are getting lots of rest, but do not sleep on the surgical side of your face for a few days.
